The incredible Room 19

Today our buddy class came to visit with books in tow to read to us. Room 19 shared their imaginary cat from our shared book ''Beware of the cat!" in return. Look at all those engaged brains and ears listening to the buddy sharing!

On Wednesday we had Duffy Theatre come into our school and perform an amazing play for us. It was about Duffy and his cousin who got lost in a game. The kids really enjoyed all the characters especially the funny Destructor and Puzzler. Here are some pictures and kids writing from the day. Yesterday I saw Duffy and Puzzler and the Destructor. It was fun. I hear Duffy's aunty splat on the wall. It was at the hall and I saw Duffy and his aunty too. They were performing a play. I felt happy because it was funny. Every fortnight on a Friday afternoon Room 19 has golden time. It is a time for students to explore and they are encouraged to use their creative minds for play and building. Today we had a group of kids playing snakes and ladders, pretend play in our shop corner, making use of the reading tents, constructing things with the maths equipment, pretend wedding taking place with our toy box and even a mini teacher helper! What an amazing selection of creative minds we have in Room 19 :)

This week Room 19 have been looking at all the characteristics that we need to be a super learner. Some ideas that were shared were not giving up, trying our best, listening to the speaker, helping others, sharing ideas. The students had a go at including a bit more description in their sentences by using "because" to explain their reasons. Look at them all thinking super hard! Here are some sentences that the kids came up with today: As a super learner I can read because I can get clever. Conrad As a super learner I can be listening and being focused and if you focus you do your work properly and help the new students. Maddy I am a super learner because I can try my best. Juni I can be super learner by helping others and taking care of them and I can do my writing and do the right thing too because instead of being a bad boy I can be a nice boy. Jose

Today Room 19 experienced their first buddy session with Room 3 and Miss V. Room 3 came into our class organised with their whiteboards to ask us questions and get to know us better. We ended the buddy time with a massive game if Duck, duck, goose. Have you ever seen a game bigger then this?

In maths Room 19 has been learning about pictographs and how to collect data . We collected data on all the kids birthdays from Room 19 and made a pictograph. We also decided it would be a good idea to add some cakes to put on our r ā  wh ā nau   wall so we know when our birthdays are. Here are a couple of pictures of us in action dying our cakes.
